WORLD LINDY HOP WEEKEND – 25 & 26 MAY

Join us May 25th and 26th for World Lindy Hop Day weekend in Margaret River!
We’re brewing up an exciting two-day event that will include lindy and aerial workshops with Jet, a live band Saturday night social, and a Picnic & Practice to wrap it all up!
World Lindy Hop Day is held each year on 26 May, Frankie Manning’s birthday! This year Frankie would have been 110 years old. Naturally, this weekend will be full of inspiration from Frankie while we celebrate and remember the roots of Lindy Hop, originating in the African American communities of Harlem New York.
A huge piece of Lindy Hop’s legacy are aerials or “air steps”. These impressive, acrobatic moves gave Lindy Hop airtime and performance troupes like the Whitey’s Lindy Hoppers (which included Frankie) performed Lindy and aerials across the US and internationally, largely contributing to how well known the dance became and has evolved to today! Sunday’s aerials workshop will ease us into aerials over a few hours, giving us plenty of time to build body awareness and leave with a handful of classic aerials for our back pockets.

Wednesday Night Hop – feat. Doxy
Join us for a special world lindy hop class! In lieu of May’s Social (normally the last Tuesday of the month) we are having a special class and social combo.
During our 7pm class will work alongside Doxy for a memorable class, working directly with the live music. Then at 8pm, we will transition into a social where Doxy keep the tunes coming!
When: May 29, 2024 – 7pm to 9pm
Where: Cowaramup District Club, Cowaramup
Cost: $20 for the class and social afterwards (at the door)

Boogie Down South is South West Australia’s annual Lindy Hop exchange, held each spring in September. South West Swing is proud to present this yearly event featuring international guest teachers, a weekend full of workshops and socials with live bands and DJs, and other specialty events.
