Learn to Swing Dance!

At South West Swing, we teach Lindy Hop and its predecessor, the Charleston. These dances were born in African American communities of Harlem, New York, in the 1920s and became prominent throughout the 30s and 40s. We are grateful to be cultural guests of this century-old dance, music, and tradition.

Level 1 Classes

Wednesdays – 6:00 pm

Beginner’s classes are run in 10-week blocks. By the end of a level 1 block, you’ll be taught the basic 6 and 8 count Lindy Hop footwork, the Charleston basics, and some fundamental moves to get you started.

No partners needed! Lindy Hop is a social dance and students rotate partners throughout the class.

Once you’ve finished one level 1 block, you can choose to move on to our level 2 classes or continue additional level 1 classes until you feel ready for our next level.

New 2024 Beginner Block Start Dates:

31st January
10th April
19th June
28th August
6th November

Level 2 Classes

Wednesdays – 7:00 pm

Level 2 will expand on the basics to help you level up your Lindy Hop and Charleston. We will teach fun variations, styling, musicality, and new fun moves for you to add to your repertoire. Anyone who is familiar with swing dancing or has completed a Level 1 block is welcome to attend. At these classes, you’ll see new faces as well as those who’ve been around for a couple of years or more!

Level 3 Classes

Wednesdays – 8:00 pm

Level 3 classes are where we really start to get more into the details: technicality, musicality, fun new moves and variations, intros to new dances like Balboa and Blues, and of course solo jazz routines. What’s a solo jazz routine? You may have heard of the Shim Sham. Well, that’s a solo jazz routine! Other famous solo jazz routines include The Big Apple, the California Routine, Trickeration, and the Tranky Doo. Anyone who is familiar with swing dancing or has completed a Level 1 block is welcome to attend but it is recommended that those attending Level 3 have attended some Level 2 classes. If you’re on the fence, just ask one of our friendly teachers.

Intro to new dance series (Intro to Blues, Intro to Balboa, etc.) are beginner friendly.
