At South West Swing we teach the prominent and unforgettable dances from the 1920s through to the 1940s, the Lindy Hop and it’s predecessor, the Charleston. We also share and immerse ourselves in the music of the wonderful Jazz Era that goes with it. Our classes run in both Cowaramup and Margaret River and cater for all levels and abilities, from never danced before to those who have been doing it forever. They are suitable for those 16 years and older.
We ask all students to wash hands or use hand sanitizer when you enter class. Please do not come to class if you have cold and flu symptoms.
We regularly run 5 week Beginner’s Blocks, providing dancers with an introduction to Lindy Hop and it’s history. There’s no need to have any dancing experience or a partner to join in the beginners class fun. In these welcoming and engaging classes we will help you get the footwork out of your head and into your feet. We recommend you wear comfortable clothing, flat shoes with not too much grip and bring a water bottle.
Beginner classes run on Thursdays at the old chapel in the Community Centre at 33 Tunbridge St, Margaret River from 6.30pm – 7:30pm. The cost for the 5 weeks is $50. You can join any week of the 5 week block.
Head to our payment page to buy your 5 class block.
For students who have completed the 5 week Beginner’s Block and are feeling comfortable and confident with the basic footwork, Linda and Caleb Dreaver run Beginner Plus classes on Wednesdays at the Cowaramup District Club from 6:30pm- 7:30pm.
Beginner Plus is designed as a drop in class which means come when you can and don’t when you can’t. Here, we will work on and hone your fundamentals while adding new and exciting rhythms and moves to your dancing repertoire.
The cost is $12 per class or become a SWS member (see our Membership Page for how to become and member) and receive discounted classes.
Intermediate drop-in classes are also held on Wednesdays at 7.45pm after the Beginner’s Plus class, with Nadia and Cam Haskell. These classes are designed for students who have completed at least two cycles of Beginner’s Plus and are confident social dancers. In these classes, as well as adding more challenging moves to your repertoire, we focus on partner connection, mixing rhythms, musicality and lead and follow technique.
Head to our payment page to buy a single class drop in or talk to us about membership and passes at class.
If you have any questions or are unsure which class is the right class for you, please speak to one of the teachers, email us firstname.lastname@example.org or call Caleb on 0416 969 901.
